Dreams of flying are very common and most people can recall having flown in a dream or two. They are some of my favorite dreams, and they do seem very real. Dreams of flying are said to indicate feeling in control or 'on top of' a situation. These type of dreams are usually carefree and celebrate a sense of 'freedom'.
Flying in dreams is very rarely unpleasant, usually when the dreamer lands, it is with a gentle floating down to earth. Flying in our dreams is often a positive and liberating experience, shedding our earthbound physical limitations. Flying high may indicate our aspirations or may suggest that we are seeking a new perspective on some aspect of our lives. They also suggests the desire to rise above things, to attain greater heights, to break free of limiting viewpoints or cultural norms. Flying in dreams can be seen as a symbol of self-confidence and self-esteem.
Many ancient myths speak of the connection between flying and sexuality and while flying itself has become commonplace these days, old interpretations can still hold true. Modern symbolic interpretations of flying include the image of worldliness, expansive ideas and communications. Some modern dreams experts interpret flying dreams exclusively as a desire to get away from problematic situations or to cross one's own boundaries, also some other researchers believe that most dreams about flying are just a sign that we want to recuperate and refresh ourselves.
Some say that we are remembering our ability to fly when we are"between lives"; also some say that in our dream state we do go out of our bodies and that the dream is a real memory of our travels during sleep; and some say that dreams of flying signify a desire for freedom and physical control within our environment- or are an expression of the level of freedom and control that we feel we have. If you go to sleep with the intention to fly, you may be able to make it happen, and also consciously develop your flying ability. The sense of freedom in flying dreams may open the dreamer’s mind to infinite possibilities. If you are flying with ease it could indicate that you are achieving all that you want to. It could be argued that dreaming of flying is a natural progression as we grow.
Freud described dreams about flying as ‘typical’ because they occur in large numbers of people with very similar content, Freud, however did not dream of flying himself though. Freudian psychology states that for men, dreams of flying are usually associated with sex, while women who dream of falling, are succumbing to sexual temptation. Carl Jung's idea was that in a flying dream we are expressing our desire to break free of restrictions and limitations.
It can said that,if the dreamer is flying like a bird, then he can accomplish his goals on his own ,also if the dreamer is flying in an airplane, or other sort of airship, he will need assistance. To dream that you are flying with black wings, signifies bitter disappointments. On the other hand, wings are associated with flying, which in turn is associated with freedom and the heavenly domain. To see a flying machine in your dream, foretells of steady satisfactory progress in your future endeavors. Dreams of flying are also indications of astral travel. Some people believe that flying in our dreams can be an actual out of body experience, that we go to places on this physical plane as well as into the inner planes, astrally speaking.
Obstacles like power lines, mountains and trees in a flying dream can be dream state manifestations of actual barriers in your waking life. For instance, if you feel that roadblocks are constantly going up in your life, you may see these roadblocks manifested as trees, mountains, power lines or other hazards in your flying dream
I hear dreams of flying are almost universal among humans, like dreams of teeth falling out or going out in public naked. To a human, dreams of flying are the ultimate fantasy. I personally had an ongoing series of flying dreams as a child which I absolutely adored, and I consciously worked in my dreams to improve my flying ability, and went to greater and greater heights.
Who's to say that dreams of flying are just dreams. Dreams of flying are often described as joyful, fun and exhilarating, and flying dreams are often among the most pleasant dream experiences. Dreams of flying are some of the most pleasureable dreams I personally have ever had.
Flying is probably mankind’s greatest dream, it is a deep-rooted topic in ancient literature and still fascinates us today. Dreams of flying are some of the most interesting types of dreams for dream researchers and psychologists. There are many reasons to dream of flying, and many ways such a dream can play itself out.
